We’re sure that many of you are asking, “What in the world are Local Business Cards”? Local Business Cards is brought to you by Google Posts.  It is an experimental feature in which Google will allow businesses, those who have Google+ Business Pages, to post directly on Google.  SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts claim that this new feature is Google’s attempt at removing the importance of links when ranking sites, in which ranking will eventually be determined by popularity.

So what does this mean for local, small businesses?  They’ll need to up their social media game sooner rather than later.  Service businesses such as painters, electricians, etc. who do not have an actual storefront, companies listed with Yelp or Trip Advisor, or businesses who do not have time to update their social media/Google+ Page will be the hardest hit if Local Business Cards takes off. Companies who have mobile-optimized sites, high quality content, and are active on social media and Google+ will see the best results from this new change.

Let’s put it this way: social media isn’t just for the millennials anymore. Small, local businesses are seeing more and more the influence that social media plays in the success of their companies.
